CREN Test Certificate Authority

The following capabilities are available for your Browser:

STEP 1: LOAD THE CREN TEST CA ROOT INTO YOUR BROWSER
This is the first and most important step in using CREN Test Certificate Authority Services. With this root certificate in your browser, your browser will recognize the certificates issued by this Test Certificate Authority. This process need only be done once per browser installation. Some Smart Updates retain root certificates.

STEP 2: REQUEST A PIN (Personal Identification Number) TO OBTAIN YOUR TEST CERTIFICATE
A PIN will be sent to you via your email address, and you will then use that PIN in the process of requesting a test certificate. This PIN will be sent to the e-mail address that you provide so you will need to have access to that email at the time you do Step 3. The same PIN may be used to obtain multiple certificates of either type from the CREN Test CA.

STEP 3: REQUEST CERTIFICATES FOR YOURSELF FOR TEST PURPOSES
You may request as many of each type of certificate as you like but remember that YOU will have to keep track of them.
Generate CHOOSE THIS OPTION to request a CREN Test CA Signature and Authentication Certificate. These certificates can be used to request access to certificate protected web sites at the same time they are able to identify you. These certificates are for test purposes only and provide assurance that the certificate owner has provided a valid e-mail address. Limited identification information is contained within this type of certificate.
Generate a CREN Test CA Encryption Certificate CHOOSE THIS OPTION to request a CREN Test CA Certificate for encrypting e-mail. These certificates are for test purposes only and provide assurance that the certificate owner has a valid e-mail address and that the content of the e-mail has not changed between the owner and the receiver. Limited identification information is contained within this type of certificate.

Note: CREN DOES NOT ESCROW your private encryption key so if you lose it or it becomes unusable in some other way, CREN will not be able to help you.


STEP 4 [optional]: TEST YOUR WEB AUTHENTICATION CERTIFICATES AND EXPORT INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 5 [optional]: CERTIFICATE UTILITIES
Query for user's certificate information To find a CREN Test CA certificate for another individual, fill out this form.
You may unlist a certificate from the repository here To remove a certificate from being displayed when a user queries using your e-mail address, you will need the e-mail address the certificate is issued to, your associated PIN number, and the serial number of the certificate. If you are unsure of the serial number, use the query to find your certificates.
