Judith Boettcher is the Executive Director of The Corporation for Research and Educational Networking (CREN). Prior to joining CREN, she was the director of the Office of Interactive Distance Learning at Florida State University. Judith was the Director of Education Technology Services at Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania. While at Penn State, Judith was also chair of the university-wide Technology Classroom program that designed and developed over 50 technology classrooms.

Judith has a Ph.D. in education and cognitive psychology from the University of Minnesota and a Master's degree in English from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. She served as the project leader for the Educational Uses of Information Technology (EUIT) Joe Wyatt Challenge, 1990-1992.

Dr. Boettcher is dedicated to the transformation of education through the use of information-age instructional technology tools and processes. This commitment is based on a philosophy that faculty and students, empowered by technology, will revolutionize the content and the processes of teaching and learning.

Greg Marks has been the overall leader in producing the CREN Virtual Seminars. He is Associate Director for On-Line Services at Merit Network, Inc. Prior to that he was Deputy Vice Provost for Information Technology at the University of Michigan and Chief Operating Officer of the Information Technology Division. Susan Gardner is the Project Director. In addition to managing the CVS project from concept to completion, Susan Gardner directed and edited all video elements of the Cren Virtual Seminars.

Through her video production and post-production company, Gardner Communications, Susan creates programs that are often times distributed with academic articles and texts. An example of her work is "The Polished Stones" a documentary that explores math education in Japan, Taiwan and China. As part of a research team that studied the relationship between electronic media and learning, Susan co-authored The Electronic Classroom in Higher Education: A Case for Change, a study of the use of computers across the curriculums of several educational institutions. She is also a contributing writer to Computers and the Teaching of Writing which details the problems and opportunities encountered by educators when they introduced computers into the writing curriculum. Susan is also a guest lecturer at both the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University, where she presents classes on electronic learning and documentary film making. Rick Witten designed and produced the program code for the CREN Virtual Seminars. Developed with RealVideo and JavaScript, the CREN VS consists of over 10 hours of video with syncronized graphics and interactive branching. The Virtual Seminars utilize Netscape as the user interface and are distributed on CD-ROMs. Rick worked closely with Progressive Networks as a beta tester for RealVideo, which was being developed simultaneously with the CREN CDs.

Rick is CEO of Synapsys Media Network, a multimedia development firm which strives to create effective and innovative products for corporate and educational clients. Respected throughout the Detroit area for his multimedia programming skills, Rick specializes in writing object oriented code for interactive projects with Macromedia Director's Lingo.

Prior to launching Synapsys in 1994, Rick worked extensively in a range of computer based media development roles. In twelve years of multi-media computing, he has produced graphics for many high profile corporate meetings and events. Skills include computer science and programming, graphic arts, as well as certified technical training in desktop computer equipment repair. His graphics and software have been used by corporate clients to create stunning imagery for announcement shows and corporate meetings, and effective interactive kiosks for corporate marketing and data aquisition. Projects include the CREN VS CDs, a CD-ROM for Canon USA, kiosks for Buick, Saturn, GM, Volkswagen, and Owens Corning, an interactive game show for Gen-Flex, and multimedia modules for Deloitte & Touche. Annie Wolock is the Creative Director for the CREN Virtual Seminars. She designed the interface and produced the HTML text and graphic screens for the seminars and the seminar web site. Annie's company, Keystone Media, designs and produces 2D and 3D computer imagery for video and digital communications for broadcast, corporate and educational programs. Her graphics and animations have been used by clients such as the University of Michigan, Mercy Health Services, General Motors, and the National Judicial College.
