Network Management:
Tools and Best Practices

To satisfy institutional and user needs, networks must provide the service users want, when and where they want it... and do it all in a cost-effective manner. Ken Klingenstein, as the Vice President of Farnet, and the Chair of both the Federal Networking Council Advisory Committee and the CAUSE Board, and currently the Director of Computing and Network Services at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has had to have all of the qualities just outlined, and his experience is a good teacher for all of us. The Boulder campus is home to several state and regional network management centers and was the first campus to connect to the vBNS (NSF-sponsored very-high speed Backbone Network Service).
